The Jeep
I've owned the car since november 95. It was from someone who had it stolen and recovered. I drove it for a month before I
started car pooling and it has been sitting here ever since.I'm not a mechanic and just planned on driving the jeep for a
few months back and forth to work, but here are the problems that I've found with the help of the haynes manual and a few
backyard mechanic opinions, in no particular order...First off, the steering column must have been pulled back and the key
thing jimmied, so it needs a new key thing which is $35 dollars and comes with two keys. The steering column is also cracked.
Theres about an inch or two of play in the steering wheel, but it could just need an alignment and have nothing to do with
the theft. The drivers side door keyhole needs to be replaced. The blinkers and hazard lights dont work, however, I never
checked to see if it was because of the fuses or the bulbs themselves. The windshield wipers work but dont squirt. The a/c
heater blower motor doesnt work which is $25 dollars and easy to replace. Power windows and doorlocks work except for the
right side door locks dont power unlock. They want to, but I never took the door panel off to see what was jamiing them up.
Rear defrost works as does the switch to power or comfort. When starting the car back up it runs hot, however, there was
a new thermostat installed before purchase, and no fluid is moving through the top radiator hose, so its probably the water
pump which is $55 dollars with a new belt, and doesnt seem to bad to replace as the pump is right in the front. The thermostat
housing has a crack in it, which is $15 dollars and 99c for some sealant and $3 bucks for a new gasket. Theres some fluid
dripping a little from a hose in the front from the connection, but I dont know what kind and it's just a few drops. the jeep
doesnt smoke any color, has passed emmisions, and has a tag until may 06. Theres a noise not like a clicking or grinding more
like a klunk or a rub, but I've heard everything from need a new front end to maybe it's the cv joints to the tires are the
wrong size and rubbing. It only happens when you push on the gas hard or turn all the way to the right. Thats all I know about
the car, it ran smooth for the month I drove it. I'll toss in the Three 20 x 8 1/2 inch rims that were left on the jeep when
they recovered it (Minus tires) a small two channel amp, the haynes manual for the do-it-your-selfers, and 5 quarts of oil
and an oil filter for the first oil change I never got around to doing. Good car to go back and forth to work in, or haul
stuff around, or good project car to go offroading in if you want to get a 6 inch lift kit (which is as high as you can go
without having to mess with the frame) and throw some MT's on it and hit the dirt. In any case, Im only asking what I paid
for it, only because it has alot of potential and I just never got around to fixing it up. Parts are plentiful and cheap and
you could do worse for an $800 dollar running car. No Negotiating, cash only, if you have any questions feel free to email
me, please no calls unless you are serious about purchasing. If you want to set up a time to come start it up, email me or
drop by anytime you see a car in the driveway, although, bring some cables because the battery is probably dead. You now know
what I know about the jeep. Have a great day!
